Well, as many of you have calendar event after calendar event scheduled to remind you of today (or, more likely, of midnight last night) today is 11.11.11

That means a TON of new products are about to be released. Doing a quick search I found that there is also a new Stone Ale being released by a bear company, and quite a few other things.

What are people most excited about? Skyrim? That's what my guess is...

Like several other examples in numerology (23, law of 5's, the Golden Ratio, lucky 7) people put significance on the numbers 11:11 and 1,111. Some people believe there are 1,111 spirit guardians known as "midwayers". People also believe that seeing the time 11:11 is a sign from the spirit world. A lot of people I know will look at a clock and see 11:11 and say "it's 11:11, make a wish".

My mom has a friend that is very into all spirit stuff, I think its a bit weird but people can believe whatever they want.

I'm excited for the movie Immortals and also that Assassin's Creed Revelations is coming out in 4 days!

It seems like the 11-11-11 companies that planned releases of products around this date are just playing off many of those beliefs that the number has a special significance.

Edit: you can also do a bunch of numerical tricks with the number eleven.
ex) 11 x 11 = 121, 111 x 111 = 12321, 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

I think it's a day like any other. I think people are profoundly stupid and attach special significance to insignificant things. I also think it's only "mania" because the media told us it would be. It's like Black Friday. If the media hadn't publicly declared that it was the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, several people who have since been crushed to death by morons fighting to get into WalMart at 4am would still be alive. And once the media threw it out there, every store on the fucking planet followed suit. If Donnie Dumbass on the 10 o'clock news says it is so, by god the public believes it is fucking so.

blackjack players consider 11 a lucky number (and will often double down in hopes of getting 21), so its also has a "lucky" significance to gamblers.

On this Armistice Day, I went to my favorite sushi place. I don't like being fixated on the past, because then you never get over it. Thank a veteran, hug a new American, and hope we still live in a country where freedom is valued. Sometimes I have my doubts, but there is hope.
