DIC Community Awards & Reputation Badges Graphics Competition

As you may have noticed we have begun introducing badges and awards for different things around the site. At the moment these include getting rep in specific forums and creating interesting blogs. We want to continue with new badges and thought we would open the designs up to the community and see what can be achieved.

The DIC community awards are coming up and it would be great to have some new award badges ready for when that happens. Members can then wear their award with pride forever. To keep a uniform design, entrants must come up with a design that can be applied to all of the badges with a change in the text and possibly a graphic. Take the reputation awards as an example.

The list of awards is as follows:

  • DIC Blog of the Year
  • Most Helpful- Programming
  • Most Helpful- Web Development
  • Most Helpful- Computer and Games
  • Mentor of the Year
  • Expert of the Year
  • Author of the Year
  • Contributor of the Year
  • Favorite Alumni
  • New Member of the Year
  • Staff Member of the Year
  • Nicest Member of the Year
  • DIC Head of the Year

We also have new reputation ranks that were voted on by the community and they also need graphics. Again there would need to be some consistency among the badges to qualify. The new reputation ranks are as follows

  • Exiled
  • Disgraced
  • Shunned
  • Dishonoured
  • Apprentice
  • Worker
  • Tradesman
  • Craftsman
  • Whiz
  • Stalwart
  • Architect
  • Enlightened
  • Master
  • Grandmaster
  • Guru
  • Overlord
  • Deity
  • Legendary

We're looking forward to seeing some great entries and this is a really good way to contribute your skills to the site. This thread is for entries only, a discussion thread will be opened for replies and to show works in progress. So everyone get photoshopping/gimping/illustrating. Good luck!

Entries will be voted for by the community, including team members. :)

Closing date 20th December 2011

@Shane Hudson: Those look awesome! Would it be possible to get them without the years though? That way, we can reuse the graphics for future years. We can note the year the person won the award in the Reason textbox when we award them. :)

Sure, though I did it that way to begin with and personally preffered this way! I won't bother doing it now.. just imagine they are not there haha. If I win then when I slice them for you / give psd I will remove them then! I could not first "of the year" onto them all so thought having the year there made it obvious rather than just "I am a programmer" etc lol

Glad you like them, but they did not take very long really... I just found icons from a massive icon set I already had and duplicated the badge many times and added a few effects like drop shadow lol

If I win it I can send you the psd to fix if you want? I have two monitors which although I have tried calibrating they both look very different to each other so I don't know what the real colours are like! I only submitted because no one else had anyway lol, I am no designer!

Nasty business on that one, isn't it? That always drives me up a wall. I normally use a panatone swatch to watch that.

I don't think they work on laptops? If they do I will borrow my uncles!

And good idea about pantone colours Lemur, I have only ever used them for print!
