What is the most widely used programming language in the physics field? I heard Fortran is still used a lot.

That might depend on what you're into doing. I've dabbled a bit with Physics simulating, and i found Pascal (dead serious) to be a rather expressive language for that. You might also find it suits your purpose.

I don't know why this was down-repped. I work at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and I use Python to due highly complicated Nuclear analysis. Other languages commonly used are Perl, MatLab, and Mathematica, but I have never needed to move away from Python.
