I have my first interview for an entry level programming position tomorrow. I'm also in my last week of school, so I don't have an official transcript yet that I can provide.

My question to those who have interviewed and maybe do interviews, what should I be expected to bring and what kind of questions should I expect to be asked?

I have a very small portfolio with only 1 project that I worked on in an internship. Should I include some homework projects that I've done in class in there?

Hi,

It's been my experience that entry level position interviews are often less about technical questions and more about personality. You can expect some basic technical questions to check general competency. These will of course vary depending on the type of position you are interviewing for and the technologies being used. Allot of the time for junior level positions they will be trying to determine if you are going to be a good fit for the organization and be easy to work with.

This can of course vary .

I definitely suggest you include school work in your portfolio, it's not at all uncommon.

There can also sometimes be some general tasks to check problem solving skills.

However as Jstall said, its more about personality than anything. They need to make sure that you are worth the time and training!

Include as much as you can in your portfolio, it won't hurt. Even if its bad code. The interviewer may ask you how you would improve the code that you have previously done. Of course make sure you prepare some kind of answer.

I have a portfolio question. How should I display the code? Should I keep it in it's natural form (.cpp, .java, etc) or should I put it in notepad or something similar?

If they are wanting it in electronic form then I would say just leave it in the native file format to the language (.java etc).

They will know what to do with them (well you hope so anyways)
