What to do next?

Posted 28 November 2011 - 07:28 AM

http://best-gigs.tk/ -this is the site I made, and I would like to here your opinions about it. Its really simple, it has a search field and a dropdown menu, wich are then used to create the url for an iframe wich searches for a desired keyword on the desired website. Thats what it does for now.

The thing I got to do now is to make it record every search querry into the database and once I do that I will be able to include specific gigs (micro-jobs) to pop out when one of the popular search querrys is entered.

I would like to know what do you guys think of the idea, could it be usefull to people who use micro-job services, in wich direction should I develop it and do you have any ideas what would be the best solution to make money from it.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Hmm.. well there's not much to your site to even begin to critique.

Background - check.
Some sort of functionality. Check.

An information or 'about' page to explain what the gist is - missing.
Your source needs cleaned up - duplicate information and tags in there.
Same with your CSS.

Your background was loading slow for something that basic.. you might want to cut down the 450k "bg.jpg" to something like 40k.

Your /img/ folder is viewable.

When searing your page becomes near unreadable.. and it's also slow so it looks funny when loading.

Both aware of the need to clean the code and to add more info like an about page, and I will do it over these next few days. About the background , ill see what can I do, I am kind of stuck with the clouds idea , I could maybe just make them smaller, but I don't consider it a priority cause the results from siteloadtest.com suggest the site loades fairly fast. What I want to know is how can I hide my image folder , any why is it important to do so.

btw, Thanks for the comment

Alter the quality not the canvas size.

htaccess is pretty common if you don't own the server..

, any why is it important to do so.

You want the world to be able to traipse through your folders? Security first!

got the bg.jpeg down to 50kb , and I tryed to add this to .htaccess " Redirect /images http://best-gigs.tk" and it fixed the problem with the image folder, but then it stopped loading the images. What should I do ?

I updated the site , added more funcionality and added some info, cleaned up the code a bit (still needs work) and also added a "sponsor" and "donate" pages to try to get a few bucks from it. The opinions of people here on dream.in.code mean a lot to me, and I would really like to hear what do you think about the design, funcionality and the sites potential to earn . here is the link once more http://www.best-gigs.tk

Hi , I made big updates to the site , and its a whole new thing now. I also got a new domain - www.best-gigs.com . I am trying to get a few visits by bumping this thread up, but a few reviews of the site would be even better. I think its a huge improvement from the first version, and I plan to develop it further. Right now I am working on some small funcionality updates which will make browsing gigs easier, and trying to learn best SEO techniques to start bringing in more people.

any suggestions, advices, tips, critics , everything is very welcome.

Something is way off with this layout. Maybe it's the color/odd borders but I don't quite get what you are going for.

You are also missing a 'home' button in the toolbar.

can you please post a print screen, the site should look like this http://oi39.tinypic.com/10dtj5v.jpg . I decided to remove the home link from main navigation, maybe ill put it back , you can go to the homepage by clicking the logo. I know it looks bad on a 800px screen, but it should look fine on biger resolutions.
