Edit/Delete Post and Username Change Requests [Please Read!]

Posted 28 November 2011 - 10:13 AM

Editing and Deleting Posts

Due to widespread abuse, post edit times have been restricted. Members have never been allowed to delete their own topics. Please read this thread for more information:

A Change To Edit Times

If you believe you have a valid reason to have your thread deleted or your code removed, please PM a moderator (dark blue badge) or an administrator (green badge) with your request. Do not open new threads about this; they will be closed.

Username Changes

Usernames are not something to be changed on a whim. Do not expect a username change. If there are extenuating circumstances, feel free to PM an Administrator (green badge). Again, please do not open new threads about this topic; they will be closed.

Deleting Accounts

Accounts are not simply not deleted. If you no longer wish to use your account, you can edit your profile to remove any info you've filled out, log out, and never log back in. However, we will not delete your account. Please do not PM us about this, or open a thread about it, as they will be closed.

Thank you.

I'd like to add a mod comment about deleting posts:

There's almost no valid reason that you can provide for us to delete your post. We can edit your post if it contains personal information like domain names, IP addresses, passwords, or real names, to remove the information. Just send us a message letting us know which post and what information. But we will not delete your post that contains that info.

Lastly, the fact that your post is related to schoolwork is not a valid reason for us to delete your post. It is always your responsibility to take care with the information you post on the internet, because once you post it, you have no control over it, regardless of consequences. This is true for most sites on the internet, not just this one.

Our policy is to retain all posts, because any help rendered to you may be of use to someone else as well, at a later time. Unfortunately, that means that if you post your homework, your professor may find it and think you are cheating. If you believe this may happen, do not post your code, or generalize your question so that the help you receive cannot be considered cheating.

Thank you.

Adding one note to what Curtis Rutland has said. Many search engines index DIC, including but not limited to Google, Yahoo, and Bing. This means that even if we remove your posts, they have most likely been cached on the internet. If you don't want something out there, don't put it on the internet to begin with.
