Calendar reminders with no running sub

Posted 02 December 2011 - 03:00 PM

Hey guys!!

I have a silly question --

Let's say I'm making a calendar program and I want to leave it open all day. When 2pm rolls around I want it to tell me I have a meeting in 5 minutes...how would I go about this? Do I have to have a sub that's constantly running and slowing down my comp or is there a function/better way that is going to surprise me?

I'm not looking for the code, just some feedback on the best way to achieve this...

As always, thanks in advance!!!

So you need to create alarm/reminder program, there are many ways to go about it, but remember there must be alive sub for the program to be live, and it wont slow down the computer because one small program is running.
- You can use timer to deal with your project and look for time in every time tick.
- To make it live, you can minimize it in system tray and if time comes, just display notification and play misic
That is all for it to work.

There are some examples in MSDN and Code Project which will give you a way to start:
