I would have to go with:
1. Reading.
2. Procrastination, especially when I am in the middle of a book and someone wants me to do something else.
3. TV
4. Internet
5. Sleeping

1. The Internet. No, not a certain site, the whole thing. I sometimes have mood swings if I spend a significant period of time not being attached to it.

2. Foreign language. I study them for fun. Seriously. I'm learning German and Esperanto now. I know Spanish. I'm brushing up on french. I have Malay in my back pocket. I study Japanese for fun. I even made up one only my younger brother and I know.

3. Man-bags. I love them. I have to have things to carrying my books and pens in all the time and the man-bag does the trick every time. So I have three now (and I want more because I want different colors).

4. Color-coordination.

5. Cleaning. If my house isn't clean, I stress out, so I compulsively clean. Not just my stuff, but even my friend's stuff (seriously, one of them got mad at me for that very reason).

6. Learning anything. I get more of a buzz on computer languages, foreign languages, gymnastics and art, but I love to learn.

7. Storms.

8. Cute things. Voice, people, eyes, hair color, cartoons, whatever. I love things that are "cute".

9. Japanese female singing voices (Utada Hikaru, Maaya Sakamoto....)

10. Thinking. I actually enjoy it.

11. Correct english grammar.

12. Starcraft.

13. Any kind of clothing that flows (headbands, sleeve, pants with flare-out bottoms).

14. deviantArt

15. JOURNALING!!!! (since 5th grade, my friends)

16. Writing in general. I spent about 8 hours writing (typing or handwriting) per day.

[edited: I forgot one]

17. Purpose. I have "lost" my ability to write in three programming languages because I could not think of a good reason to program and I refuse to do things if they don't have a purpose. How crazy is that? I should have made a 31337 translator or something.

Re: What are Your Soft Addictions

omoimasuyo's post has insipered me to more honest.

#1 (biggest addiction) Books! I have lots of books. Most of non-trivial technical books. I have not read though most of them. I make the excuse that I have these for referance. And it is true that many of these books work as excellent referances. However, I have gotten some "ebay specials" on really old programming books that are more or less useless (unless someone asks me to make decipher some punch-cards one day). I will even cruse the public-library book sales, and used to grab up old textbooks and what not that professors would thow out. Torrents have only made the addiction worse.

#2 FOOD!!! I love good full-flavored food.

#3 Programming. Thats right. I admit it. I am addicted.

#4 Mathematics. I studied math in school rather than CS because I find mathematics much more challening the CS. I had been programming for a number of years, and in High School I had been tutoring the university CS students (and making good money at it too). Now I have a math degree, and I can understand a LOT more than I could before, but I still get intimidated. I just have to put on a brave face (that and use mathematica).

#5 Cooking. To me, I think that this is #2 and #3 come together. It started as just a support for my love of food. But as you go the recipies get more and more complex. Before you know it you are swapping recipies with the cat lady down the road.

#6 Doodling. I love to draw. I used to be (what I considered) an accomplished graphic artist. Now I just doodle on paper.

#7 This should be higher on the list. Napping. I love to nap. I get my best thinking done in Naps. Often when I can't solve a problem I will sleep on it and find the solution... which often has me up in the middle of the night excited because I solved some big problem.

#8 Projects. Oh I start a billion and a half projects a week it seems... I have about 4 tutorials that I have started and left in various states of completeness... Often this is becuase I realize that my thoughts are not as clear as I want them to be. -- example: I have been planning to write a math textbook for years, but the more I learn the less orgranized my thoughts become. My basic idea is to make a math text that contains the basic mathematics that I learned as a beginning programmer. But I just can't get my ideas to gell into something solid enough to be divided into chapeters.

Let me see....

*counts*

No.

I have two in neutral colors:
- navy blue
- black

The black bag is by far the favorite (it is actually one huge zipper). The navy blue is a close runner up as it has lots of pockets and compartments. I am currently using that one.

I would like an olive green, hunter green, khaki, and a deep red one.

Which now reminds me that I must add a soft addiction:

#18 - pockets. I love cargo pants :)
#19 - buttons. Anything that can be pushed (I like computers and pianos, need I go on?)
#20 - skate wear. Especially the shoes and pants.
#21 - dress clothes. I really would wear a suit all day if I could. I love being dressed up every now and again. Just feels nice.

most of these seem less like 'addictions' and more like 'interests'

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that:
- I refuse to leave the house without being properly coordinated and without a bag. Heck, I just spent two weeks studying the color wheel.
- I spent in excess of eight hours doing things like what I am doing now.
- I am currently learning german and esperanto for the heck of it with no practical application in mind.
- I didn't do two art projects per day this week for the sheer heck of making people things.
- I didn't have lanyard bracelets (that I made) in so many crazy colors (because I thought they would look cute on this thing or another), excessively play with my dog (who is oh so cute) when I go home, or stare at anime wallpaper for 15 minutes per sitting...

The explanations could go on and on, but these aren't things I just "put down" and do something else... except Starcraft. I have the expansion CD, but not the original CD. However, I refuse to throw away the now useless expansion CD because it has the word starcraft. Yeah, it sounds stupid....
