.. is sql server installed?

I would suggest using your own with the SQLCLIENT namespace!

That's my friends problem, Yes he got it installed and its working if he connection string bythe programming, but he want to create dataset by designer, and in window he don't have an option of sql server client, only by the mdf file. Is there something way to add it to list? He have got sql express.

If I am not mistaken, the free (Express) versions of VS - with the exception of the Web Developer - do not allow you to visually connect to any SQL servers. Only the payed versions offer that feature.

I would guess that their thinking is that the Express versions are for non-professionals, who are not likely to need to build a desktop app with access to a SQL server. - Sort of short sighted perhaps, but I can sort of see their point. They are in this for the money after all, and providing free professional tools isn't exactly profitable.

Not to mention that I always roll my own connection.. and at the most use the designer to make the dataset... but connections, commands, and execution is all done on the code level.. by me... and my handy dandy custom snippets.
