XNA Game Programming Challenge 5 - EVIL!

POPULAR

It is time for the fifth XNA game programming challenge. This challenge will be eight weeks in duration.

Challenge:
Evil!

Description:
Usually in games the player is the good guy often saving the world from evil. I thought Id turn the tables this time and make the player the bad guy. Id like to see a game where the player is truly evil. Good examples of this are the Overlord games.

Requirements:
The only requirement for this one is that the player gets to play the bad guy. Im not requiring menus or anything else. Having menus, high scores and other elements you find in a game will net you bonus points. I will ask that you use the Reach profile rather than the HiDef profile because I will be judging entries on both of my computers and my laptop doesnt support HiDef.

Scoring:
I will not take points off of a project for artwork or lack thereof. This is a programming challenge, not an art challenge. Im looking for game play over assets. A game that is fun to play and doesn't have the best art will score higher than a game that doesn't play well and looks good and plays poorly. Youve completed the challenge and have a chance to win Gold, Silver or Bronze.

Gather your resources and begin writing your games! You have until February 8th to get your submission in. Anything submitted after February 8th will not be accepted. You do not have submit your source code, but you can if you wish. All that I require is your output directory.

If you have any difficulties with your entry you are free to ask for help in the XNA forum here at Dream.In.Code.

Best of luck in this game programming adventure!

Can I finish off my Tower Defense game but make the player evil and has to stop the 'good guys' from rescuing a princess, or something? ;)

Is this a separate contest than the Game Programming one? Same right?

Also I'm forming some ideas right now :D.

This is separate from the game programming one. This one is for XNA only. The one in game programming is for anything but XNA. I just liked the theme and decided to use it in both but doing that might have caused a little confusion.

I've found that XNA is easier than other frameworks when it comes to making games. It allows for more rapid development so I feel it offers a bit of an unfair advantage to other frameworks. This might not be the case, just an observation, but I decided to keep them separate for those reasons.

Well, I'll help try and keep this one from the fate of the others. The low interested/entering count is going up by one.

Think I may keep away from anymore in world grid battles though for this one. Haven't had the time to yet to really get that one fully straightened out. That one kind of flopped last time, lol.

Hey guys just curious if others are making any progress since it's been over two weeks (six remaining), personally I'm still in the process of making an editor for the game but have the basic game screen management and controls setup. So basically I've got almost nothing lol, I've been too enticed in playing some classic games on emulators as of late which are a bad influence :(

Keen to hear of other's progress..

I've only got the basics up too. Past week & a half has been rather busy with the holidays & all. also, I'm really gald for find & replace. My 'a' key if broken & the fewer of them I hve to copy/paste in, the better. >.<

I might extend the deadline two weeks because of the holidays. It is hard to get any work done on entries with all of the family obligations and such. If enough of you are interested in an extension I will happily extend the deadline.

I'd certainly be grateful for it with all the time that got eaten up around christmas. That aside even, I'd always prefer to be able to submit the most complete project possible.
