Okay - so I figure my game's help file would be sufficient to get the idea across. Enjoy.

Spoiler

As I said - basic VB.NET.. no XNA.. the graphics were all PAINT.NET, Inkscape, and MSPAINT. The rest - basic forms. See the power that a bit of will can do ya?!

That is quite possibly the most epic submission I've ever seen to one of these challenges.

Good job there modi123_1. Will have fun testing that entry and writing up a score sheet. Which I will definitely do for this challenge.

Well here is my game, I have not done anything since I posted the screenshots though.

It includes source code but it is rather messy, I am sure there is better logic... but I am not a game developer so I have not had much experience with game logic!

EDIT:

Simple documentation goes like...

Compile Instructions

Go into folder and run the Game.java file using your jvm.

Objectives

You are at a town's Christmas Fête. Your aim is to steal presents, very much like The Grinch, and bring them to your home while avoiding the party-goers. For this version of the game, your home will always be top left.

Play Instructions
You start at Home (H) and are able to move directional by typing "north, up, east, right, south, down, west, left". Your character is at P on the map. Presents are x, you should collect these (one at a time) then take it to your home. NPCs are * on the map and move randomly, if you are on the same square then the present will be taken away.

If you are in a situation in which all moves will likely have an NPC (or you are developing a strategy) then you can use the drop command to drop the item where you are. To view your score, type score. Being a 2D map, it is possible that not all presents or NPCs will show as they could be in the same spot, so if you wish to know where all NPCs are (remembering that if more than one NPC is on a spot it is possible they will go seperate directions) just type npcs.

There is currently check for end of game.

There is a screenshot earlier in the thread, but I suppose I should write documentation!

I fail to believe that was the screen shot to highlight the game. I mean you aren't even using a 'console.clear'! That and I have absolutely no idea on the back story of the game... what's going on, who is pilliaging who, and so forth.

It is more of a proof of concept, I have been busy.

I spent hours searching for a console.clear in Java... it doesn't seem to exist.

I have edited my post, I might do some more before deadline but I doubt it. You have won regardless :P

Hmmm... better.. what the hell is a "Christmas fate"? Is that some slick brit thing kept under wraps? (yeah that pun on your project is given free of charge).

Interesting concept.. Are the towns folk actively hunting you down?

No they are not hunting you down... I thought about having a Hitman style metre so that if you steal a present without range of someone everybody will look for you for a while, but not 100% sure how I would implement it cleanly and I have been pretty busy since I made that version. Might go back to it later.

Christmas fate, meh... I couldn't think of what you call outside parties in small communities.

EDIT: Another idea I had was to make the board bigger (and graphical) and to have groups of people "talking" and a Christmas tree in the middle... but ye that didn't happen lol
