The Food Cube/Holiday Office Food

Posted 19 December 2011 - 08:05 AM

The past two places I have worked have had cubes designated for food and is known around the office as "The Food Cube".

Right now the cube is packed with cookies and other holiday treats. At my new job the cube is right next to mine and needless to say it's not helping my diet :innocent:

Anyway...does your office have a cube dedicated to food?! What's your office like during the Christmas season? Filled with cookies and other holiday treats? How often do people bring in food to the office for everyone?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

At where I last worked we had a sweet bowl that was full of anything from wine gums to chocolate bars or cookies.

However when it gets near Christmas the entire table it's on get's filled with anything, including home-made mince pies and every Friday we would have pizza.

We've been doing a 12 days of Christmas thing where everybody signs up to bring food in on a particular day. I made a modified version of my dad's chili recipe that everybody wants me to provide as well as some apple pies. I'll probably try to recreate dad's ginger snaps for the holiday party.

Typically people bring in stuff at random and the word goes around.
Although we had a nice impromptu hang with my section and some various passers-by recently when a meeting was canceled at the last minute, way too late to cancel the catering. We ended up spending about two hours in one of the conference rooms jawboning before we all decided to get back to work.

That sounds like it would be fun and it's a pretty good idea. Maybe I'll have to propose that next year!

When I worked at NCR we filled our conference room full of food. Of course we had like 150 of so people in that office but one whole wall that was about 50-60' had tables lined with food. We also had a resident grill master and a farmer who would butcher a cow for the holiday and we'd have a cookout.

Coincidentally, the office next to mine was designated the "wrapping office".

Each Christmas we do a Christmas Angels kinda deal where we contact a local charity and sponsor kids for Christmas. This means we get a list from them (check it twice) and then go out and get them the gifts on that list. This year we took care of 25 kids from a foster program a couple of counties over. My kid was an 11 year old girl name Alyssa and I ended up getting her a digital camera with SD card, a new pair of mittens, a scarf, a hat, some makeup, a makeup bag, a scrapbook kit and a few assorted small items.

We have a kitchen for food. I rarely go in there.

Our office is open plan so you can always see someone come in with goodies, we then form an orderly queue* near the kitchen to help ourselves to said goodies.

Hmmm... They don't sell Vienna Sausage (or is that Vienna Plastic) at the places I get food from, I have to import some.

But the shops are overflowing with Spam:

Yup we have Spam, corned beef, and you can even get an english breakfast in a tin but I've never seen anything like those 'sausages' before.
