GoDaddy supports SOPA, many transferring domains.

Posted 23 December 2011 - 08:42 AM

So, this seems to be all over the internet, but I haven't seen a lot of discussion lately.

GoDaddy, which I imagine many here use, or another host/registrar, publicly support SOPA, and many are boycotting it, including Ben Huh of the Cheezeburger Network, transferring all 1000 domains of his network, including http://icanhascheezburger.com, http://failblog.org/, and many more that have gained popularity on the internet recently ( a few years?)

I am wondering, what is your view on the situation? Do you support or oppose SOPA? Why? Do you agree boycotting GoDaddy for their support of SOPA? Where would you suggest taking your domains instead?

EDIT: spelling (meaning, I can't spell >< )

I'm very happy that I already use Namecheap. Namecheap is excellent and not supportive of SOPA.

Well, for hosting, I use Akroncdnr.com, switched from GoDaddy about a year ago, and haven't regretted it, have my own DNS Server, for domain registration still use.

As for SOPA, I am personally biased against. I have yet to see evidence to suggest that this will be regulated favor of the public populace, nor that is won't be abused.

Fair, enough. I didn't see that, but also I thought this was a little more specific, in terms of opinions of boycotting a company that differs from your viewpoint, how effective you think it to be, etc. rather than a general discussion about SOPA

I'm always a little amused whenever there's a push to make something that's already illegal (copyright infringement, IP theft, etc) extra double probation illegal. Here's an idea: actually go after and prosecute the law breakers with the laws we already freaking have. It's not like the RIAA hasn't made a career of it lately.

Declaring something to be extra baboom bad illegal won't make people go, "oh, well now that it's EXTRASUPEREXTREME illegal I'd better stop doing it".

This is just legislation intended to bypass actual judicial judgement. Kind of like the brilliant zero tolerance laws/rules we have now that make a pair of nail clippers into a tool for hijacking airplanes and Tylenol in a school the equivalent of a pound of pure Colombian blow.

This kind of lazy, stupid shit needs to die, right now and preferably in a fire.

My hosting is through Viviotech who also manage my domains. I have no idea where they stand on this.

Interesting. Other than saying "Go Daddy No Longer Supports SOPA," the rest of the statement pretty much says they do.

Or rather, they support the idea of SOPA in all respects, just, you know, not the one called SOPA because apparently our customers don't like that one. They'll continue to support other draconian end-run IP legislation. Just, you know, not SOPA. For now.

Liars or hypocrites: excellent save their, guys. NOT! :P
