Decreasing Video Size Or Disabling

Posted 25 December 2011 - 05:53 PM

My blog is regularly updated with videos so the main page loading speed isn't very fast:
http://www.vidstowatch.com/

I'm going to try and explain this as best i can: Basically instead of being able to play videos from the main page. I'd like to have just the image of the video (from Youtube, Metacafe, College Humor or any video site) on the main page that once selected re-directs the user to the page with the video on where they can play the video properly.

Does that make sense and is it possible?

Thank you
swood

Hi,

The main page is not really all that large
Total Size: 519822 bytes

Most of the embedded youtubes are already coming in at a compressed size (gzip).

Is it for some other purpose that the youtube frame has too act as a link to another page? otherwise do not worry too much about it been the videos causing the slow load issue.

Have a look into a WordPress plugin like quick cache and optimize as quick fixes.

Have a browse at WordPress_Optimization.

I do not think the Iframes allow this type of support yet, however if it can be done I would be very much interested in how : ).

Your main issue if you attempted to embed in an <a>nchor/<img> or similar is the Iframe will not display/or as link only.

You could go around this to an extent and use images of the first frame from youtube in a gallery them nest the Iframe into the page that it redirects too.

Hope this helps to some extent

Cheers
Floppy

Thank you for your reply. If you select any other page on the blog it loads a hell of a lot quicker than the main page so this should help. I've even had complaints from a couple users about it. I have a cache plug-in set up already.
If there is absolutely no way to do this i might just have exerts of the posts and have the video only show once they select the post title.

Two reasons i wanted to do this:
~Main page loading speed
~Takes users to the actual post so they're more likely to leave a comment, like, tweet, share etc.
