New Forums- Challenges

POPULAR

We have recently added challenges subforums in the Java, C/C++, VB.NET, C#, Game Programming, and XNA forums. These forums are regularly active with questions, and we felt a subform would allow our members to better find and participate in these challenges. Only the forum leaders, mentors, and moderating team have the permissions to open topics in these forums.

Also, due to a significant amount of confusion, the Programmers subforums have been renamed to Advanced Discussion. So the Java Programmers forum is now named Java Advanced Discussion. We hope this will make it less confusing and help members better select the appropriate forums for their threads.

I've transferred all of the existing vb.net challenges across into the new sub-forum.

When I view the C/C++ challenges subforums, there is a message saying I can not open a new topic.

It looks like I already added you as a moderator to that forum. I added you as a Forum Leader, so hopefully that will resolve the issue. Shoot me a PM if you're still having problems.

How come we are not all able to create challenges? Surely unofficial challenges should still be allowed...

If you are interested in creating a challenge, contact a Mentor or Forum Leader for the appropriate forum and talk to them about getting it approved.

We made this decision because we don't want the average Pradeep trying to pass off homework as a challenge. The forums are actually set up similarly to the tutorials sections, except Mentors and Forum Leaders have permissions to approve threads.

To elaborate a little bit. Does it say "You are not allowed to create a new topic" or does it just not show up? If it's the former, then there are some site permission issues. Otherwise, do what Mac said and just ask a forum leader or mentor to approve it.

I had not actually tried, I just read the first post "Only the forum leaders, mentors, and moderating team have the permissions to open topics in these forums."

I did not realise it was set up like the tutorials, thanks mac, that makes a lot more sense!

Honestly its lame that only these ranks get to post challenges. I believe experts should be able to post challenges as well without having them approved. I am not saying that because I have the expert badge, but because an expert will likely have been around DIC for a while and so knows the rules well. Also an expert will have sufficient amount knowledge to post decent challenges. I don't see the need to hassle.

If a member is interested in getting regular challenges going, that sounds more like being a Forum Leader. If a member is interested in doing such, then please contact a moderator or admin to discuss further. :)
