If the cables are correctly inserted and fully seated in their proper connectors, and the computer doesn't see it in the BIOS, then it is most likely a dead drive.

It has power in it but unfortunately the open/eject button does not work as it has to. Is there any chance that a virus can do such thing? :)

If it is not ejecting, then RMA the drive. No virus could do that.

It is the physical device problem. Not a software problem.
So if your drive is still in warranty period, send it to RMA.
It is hard to find the fault in cable connections while dealing with laptops.

Did it show your drive in the BIOS?

A virus can not attack or damage hardware.

That isn't exactly accurate. A virus can cause a hard drive to thrash continuously, load down a cpu and/or gpu to try and get them to overheat or even corrupt firmware.

Those are standard operations of the hardware though. The virus itself can not harm the hardware. It can over-work it, but then again so does IE.
