Will DIC be participating in the blackout? If so that would be really cool.

"The Blackout"?? And for the rest of us... What the hell are you talking about? When you bring up stuff like this it helps if you provide a link or explanation and not assume everyone else reads all the same blogs you do.

My guess is he's referring to the SOPA protest blackouts planned by some sites on the intarwebz.

Most people on Dreamincode.net already know about SOPA and company, so a blackout would be kind of pointless. Sites with more oblivious people are the sites worth blacking out.

I don't see the point in a blackout anyway. "We don't like the bill that some politicians are proposing, so we're going to shut down our website, which is our best way of getting our voices and opinions heard on the internet, in protest!"
What good is it going to do? I disagree with SOPA and PIPA, but I can not for the life of me see how a blackout is supposed to help anything.

Agreed. I'm more of a 'boycott the businesses with practices I don't agree with' kinda person.
If a restaurant has a sign saying "no fire-arms" I don't leave my gun in the truck; I pick a new place to eat.

To me the blackouts are like occupy wall street; crossing your arms and putting your pouty face on isn't going to change anything. there are much better ways to raise awareness.

The purpose of the blackouts is to raise awareness amongst a less educated userbase. Technical/IT forums have a higher awareness/education on this issue since it relates to our field. I would wager that many of say Wikipedia's users aren't as educated regarding the ramifications of this or they don't care as much. So the blackouts say to these users- "Hey, do you enjoy our services? If this bill passes, you could lose us for more than a day."

You seem to miss the point of not patronizing businesses that feel it is there place to override our constitutional rights. This type of behavior is backwards progress. First it is guns, then free speech, then freedom of religion... Its a slippery slope.
