Google Analytics - Overkill ?

Posted 18 January 2012 - 11:36 PM

Is google Analytics a over kill for a portfolio site, it appears that Google Analytics is for ecommerce ? I can find out what browsers people are visiting my site with, that is all well and good. Is there other methods, if I want more in-depth information I can but not at the beginning ? Google Analytic builds you a house, even though you just a tree house.

Nope it is not overkill, I have used it on sites that get 30 unique visitors a day to a couple that have over 70 thousand. There are of course some things you won't need, like goals perhaps. But the basic statistics is always interesting to see and will often help you find out what you need to change to expand your user base.

The majority of other analytics that are as good as Google Analytics are not cheap, so you might as well use what is free (and often considered one of the best).
