They've got a shiny new computer running Win7 x64. Also, the unplug-then-replug-back-in-to-get-the-autoinstalldriver-window technique doesn't work.

Installing Printer/Scanner/Fax Driver for Work Computer

How to? Basically, they can't find the disk anymore, and they're trying to download the drivers off of Canon's site, but after I pull the driver off the site, it goes straight to Downloads, and there's no setup.exe or whatnot to install them like I've seen before with other drivers. I see some compressed files, 'cabinet file', and I'm pretty sure those are the drivers, but I don't know where to put them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

All the instructions are in the Readme.txt file in 3. Installing and Uninstalling the Drivers
Or, go to Printer and Devices -> Add printer -> Local printer-> Next -> now the attached window should appear. Click have disk, browse to the unzipped folder and select one of the .inf files(there are two .inf files, I see, one is for fax and the other for printer). Complete the wizard.

you could always direct the driver install to the downloaded driver folder.
if your printer is displayed in the task manager the right click and update driver, use browse to navigate to your downloaded folder

It's recognized that there's a printer there, but the update driver button is grayed out. 
It's really strange. I've never ran into this shit before.
Also, the only instructions on the readme were for plugging the thing in an waiting for the auto dialog from windows, which I stated in the OP that doesn't work.

You can't modify drivers when you are not logged in as Admin. If you know the Admin password, then you can open control panel, click on Admin Tools, Right click on computer management and select run as admin, then go to device manager and you can then modify/update your drivers. This is a feature of Windows 7

Have you tried removing the printer from device manager? Then unplug the printer, reboot, then try to install the device using the software you downloaded. Don't plug in the printer until the software asks you to. You will probably need to install the software/printer as administrator. See this link for complete install instructions.

Any chance this is on Windows XP? You can get away with installing the PLC drivers only, & not all that software hogwash.

I had to do some clicking around with the windows troubleshooter and some other junk. Frankly, I'm not sure what I did. Lol.
