vb.net 2d game engine

Posted 02 February 2012 - 10:35 AM

I should start off by saying that I absolutely detest VB.net. If programming languages were people and .net was a family, vb.net would be the one sitting in the corner eating glue. Sorry if you like VB.net, but that's just my opinion.

That being said I have absolutely no interest in using this code for any commercial purposes. Meaning if you stumble upon it and make the next halo off of it, I don't care. Use it all you like. Just - Don't be an ass and decide to try to sell it. I don't care if you use it in a job, but don't straight up copy/paste for $50.

Attached File  grant_p2_videoGame.zip (975.03K)
Number of downloads: 561

Anyways, it consist of 3 main files: Prop, animation, and world. It's not very well commented but everything should be pretty clear with the example.

Right now collision detection is a little buggy.... but it still works.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

If you dislike VB.NEt so much, then why did you write an engine for it?

It's the language we had to use for my programming class. The final project was a game. I made this.

That makes much more sense now that it was mentioned; is this the whole project or just some "engine"? I believe you have misguided notions about VB.NET. Ah-ha.

It's pure VB.NET

I suppose some of my sourness towards vb.net could have came from that I had for my teacher. Being forced to use bad practices doesn't exactly make me the happiest camper. And yes, it comes with the game I created from it as an example. Reading it should be easy enough. My only regret is not putting more features in. My goal was to create a full 2d sidescroller shooter including a fully explorable level and a boss level, but I couldn't get the collision detection done in time so I settled with left-right movement in my game (with gravity turned off) and one boss level.
