If I import an existing site into Dreamweaver CS5 will it update live?

Posted 02 February 2012 - 11:31 AM

If I am updating and editing an existing site into Dreamweaver CS5, will it automatically live update what I am working on to the real site? I need to play around with most pages of the site on Dreamweaver, but I want the real site to stay as is until I am ready to update my changes live.
-thanks

Unless I know what type of setup you have that's impossible to say. Are you editing for an FTP server elsewhere, or a local server? It depends as to whether or not you're testing the site locally or in a production environment. If you aren't sure, it's a good sign that you need to hit the books and learn how web servers work before you proceed.

You should have a local copy of the site and a web server installed such as WAMP (Although not required if it's just straight HTML pages). Then make and test any changes, and push them up to the live site. I wouldn't ever edit a live site directly.
