Favorite Linux Distros?

Posted 11 February 2012 - 11:41 AM

I've seen a lot of people around the forums with their favorite OS being Linux, and I've always wondered which distributions you all use. (or if you're a bad-ass, why did you chose to make your own distro?)

My favorite Linux Distro has to be Arch Linux; I'm on Ubuntu right now (just because Arch messed up real bad) and I'm moving over to openSUSE for a while.

How about you?

What is your:
--Current distro

--Favorite distro

Fedora. Lightweight, and just a nice environment.

But, I rarely use Linux unless doing server work.

Well I have Arch running on my laptop, ubuntu server on my server and dual booting Arch/Windows 7 on my main desktop. This set up would be perfect if I didn't have to rely on Windows 7 for games.

I'd definitely say that Arch is my favorite. Mainly for it's minimalism feel, and for pacman. I'll probably try out openSUSE next since I haven't tried any slackware distros yet.

As far as my tops: Mint (Debian/Gnome), Debian, and Ubuntu. To be fair I'm transitioning out of Ubuntu towards Mint Debian.

For servers and other important architectures I use OpenBSD or BSD based systems.

I'm thinking of making a definitive which distro guide.

Favourite distro: Arch Linux
Current distro: Arch Linux :)

I should really make backups of this installation as I've put a lot of work into it.

My favourite is probably Fedora, although Arch is extremely good too. I very much like Openbox, so Crunchbang is nice, I always found the repos out of date though.

...you can just install Cinnamon on Ubuntu using the packages and adding that repository.

Favorite Distro is Slackware
Currently I'm running Mint on a laptop & PCBSD (which isn't Linux) on my desktop.

I had already installed cinnamon on it just want it to be native.

Must say Arch is pretty high on my list now considering it put new life in my dads 15 year old computer.

My first ever distro was ubuntu like many others.

My current on my laptop is fedora 16, and I have been enjoying it a lot. I know there is much controversy surrounding gnome 3 window manager, but I haven't had any issues. I think it looks great and the search function(activated by the windows button) is much snappier than it was on ubuntu 12.04 with unity.I also haven't had any hardware issues on fedora, which I always seemed to have on ubuntu. Don't get me wrong, I still think ubuntu is solid, but I prefer the direction fedora is going.

Besides fedora, my other favorite distro would have to be crunchbang linux. It isn't as well known, so I'm glad to get a chance to plug it. It is a super lightweight distro based on debian squeeze using the open box window manager. It is very minimalist, and very fast, so I love it for programming.
