I am currently in a state of procrastination. I have a project due tomorrow - not a major project, mind you - but it involves significant graphic design work (special request for a custom designed image map menu.... what year is this again?).

I don't like doing graphic design work... so I'm hoping if I piss around long enough, someone else will create this stupid graphic.

No, someone else doing it isn't even a remote possibility, but I can dream, damn it!

I am working on a game/game engine in VB.Net! Making a map/tile system for it right now, finished up keyboard and mouse input earlier today. Tomorrow, I'll have to write it over for DirectX.

Ah, yes, it's a pain in the keister, being employed.

Did you have a nice vacation?

Employment isn't the pain in the keister. Graphic design is the pain in the keister. We have a graphic designer on staff. People don't use him because he takes too long. So they get the coder - with zero graphic design background - to do the design work. Genius!

But vacation was lovely. I fear it's lessening of the disgruntledness effect is sadly temporary. I'm trying to determine if the source of my aggression is stress or just the standard cantankerousness that comes with age. Or both. Or I'm just a bitch.

[Side note: While in the process of writing this post - as fabulous and informative as it may be - my office phone rang. I damn near dropped my coffee when he said, "Hey there! This is Jon from Boston!" It was some guy trying to sell me a new content management system. He kept calling me "chickie" and my lack of willingness to contribute to the conversation was making him noticeably uncomfortable. </pointless side note>]

I've got two weeks of hell with school work. Today, I'm prepping for my Proofs and Linear Algebra tests tomorrow, and then Econ on Friday. Then I'm hitting the road to go home to sign my lease for my apartment next year!

I can see how that would be a little awkward.

Note to self: When on a business call, do not address your interlocutor as "chickie". "Sweetheart", "honeybuns", and "hot stuff" are probably also out.

EDIT: (unless your business involves renting out the use of your naughty bits, I suppose - I don't know the etiquette in that situation)

My favorite part of doing graphic design work is sending my final product with the disclaimer: "Your feedback is appreciated, but please remember: I am not a graphic designer. I have zero formal design training... I can only accomplish so much."

Today I'm doing flips off the walls since I just found out that my school that never cancels has officially called off class for tonight!!!!

That 4 Chapter Test scheduled for today? Now it's next Tuesday.
That Exam Program that isn't quite complete? Due next Tuesday.

Now the only question is whether to 'implement' the inclement weather policy and head home early ;)

I resemble that remark.

I was sent this image yesterday morning:
Posted Image

And I was asked to modify it for use by our Academics Department. "We want it kind of like this, but shrink it down. We want the pillars to be short and fat. And change the words to the 5 topics we gave you. And make the tops of the columns whole - these columns aren't finished. And then use our department acronym and make it like it's carved out of stone and the pillars are holding it up. Make it cartoony, but not too cartoony. We want it to be both friendly and professional. And then we want each pillar to link to its respective page, like a button."

THAT'S the design headache I've been working on. My draft graphic got the thumbs up from the powers that be (though I've no idea how.... it was crap). Now... how to make an image map in Joomla...

I did quite thoroughly enjoy the starting point. I wonder if there would have been hellfire and brimstone all over campus if it had been sent to a religious colleague instead.
