Today I am lamenting my new 10 hour workdays. Yesterday, however, I was still enjoying my new 3-day weekends. All in all, it's a win.

Beats ten hour workdays and one-day weekends, which is where I'm at lately.
Fortunately, I bill by the hour.

Today I:
* Fixed a file that I had left out of a previous change request, committed it to source control, tagged it up and wrote a change request to deploy it.
* Submitted said change request to our ops team, who work for an external company.
* Got assigned to fix a problem with a content management system not publishing. This particular CMS feeds into creating quizzes that are shown on the red button data service on BBC channels on UK TV.
* Went over and talked to central editorial to diagnose the problem.
* Created a fix for said problem.. it was because we had switched off a tomcat instance on our live servers as we thought it wasn't necessary anymore. Turns out we were wrong.
* Got into a load of trouble for suggesting that maybe it was the ops team who suggested we remove said tomcat instance (they did).
* Committed a bunch of files to source control (CVS and SVN) and edited another change request that is part of the main project I'm working on. (A change request is a bunch of linux commands that walk through step by step how to pull down the source files for a fix or patch, install them, and then restart any services that need restarting).
* Answered some questions from the contractor I'm working with, tried to help him with a problem but it was a bit out of my league.
* Went home.

Since coming home from work I have:
* Had a very tasty dinner prepared by my marvellous girlfriend
* Did some C++ coding. Finally got annoyed enough with Netbeans to move to Visual Studio Express.
* Imported the project into VSE, and eventually got it to compile.

Today I came to work wet from the storm. I've finished the first half of my current project and moving on to the last half.

Let's see... today I am finishing up a project running about 400ft of 24 strand fiber optic cable through a manhole system. Yesterday I finished fusion splicing that 24 strand into a 144 strand and today I am simply tipping the other side with SC connectors. Easy day.

Well... I'm working on an OS. I have just designed the basic kernel of it. It'll be like a Quad-Core Kernel, with 4 different parts working independently so that we get the maximum speed from the software part. Now I'm working with it's coding part!

I'm working on losing my mind. The webmistress is in high demand today!
Later, I have a couple meetings for some fun new projects... web app/mobile app stuff. There's not much in life better than writing actual code... and it is a welcome distraction from the standard website maintenance/content updates I'm usually dealing with.

Concerned about the location of my wallet. This could get annoying.

Missing wallet, keys, and sunglasses are three things that I have no sense of humor about, and I can find no peace until they are found.

Missing keys are a full-on crisis situation. Anything else, I can handle.

POPULAR
Upon returning from lunch, I answered a frantic phone call from my boss, "LINDA! I've been trying for an hour to post to this thing and nothing is working! Please tell me you have a free minute to stop down!" Of course I have a free minute.... she's my boss. I don't tell her no.
I packed up my essentials and hoofed it across campus where she sat in her office with a wide-eyed expression of panic.
"Ok," she explained, "I typed all this stuff in this little box, right? And now I can't find a way to make it go on the page. I've been looking all over for an hour. I even had Mildred [the 80-year-old secretary] over here to help. How do I make it go?!"
She slid her chair back, gestured to the computer and said, "Work your magic!"
I walked around her desk, looked at the screen, pressed enter and walked away.
She was trying to comment on a Facebook status and couldn't find a 'Submit' button.
