Trying to follow the MS examples

Posted 18 February 2012 - 12:25 PM

WPF is new to me. I figured I should find a good MVVM example to learn from.

Well, lookie here, Microsoft has a Windows Application Foundation set up on CodePlex. It reads like it is skeleton of sorts for developing good WPF applications that follow the right design patterns. Cool. One of the samples is an Email Client. Cha ching! Could I get anything any more targeted?

Silly me for thinking it would WORK.

Really? Visual Studio 2010 Professional as part of my very expensive MSDN subscription isn't good enough? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Or think it would be up to date

For Kahless sake these people seem to just go out of their way to discourage people from taking up the new technologies that another side of the company are pushing.

Tilq, just wanted to suggest that you learn WPF by reading these books. It's how I learned WPF.

First get this:

A programming book? A tome filled with bulked out fluff to sell copy? You need a book when the documentation fails. Clearly, this is the case.

I have SEVERAL book. I never get rid of them. Everything from 10 year old C++ to the latest C#, WPF books. Everything is digital and the one's I'm reading are on my iPad. The idea of PAPER books is long gone in my household. All my wife's magazines, my MSDN magazine subscription, all the coding books I buy... All epub or PDF.

You were under the misconception that everything on CodePlex gets kept up-to-date. It doesn't, even if it is from Microsoft. Normally, it's one employee or a couple of employees that put out a small project. If those few people don't keep it updated, then it doesn't get updated. It's not like every small project from Microsoft that get's put on CodePlex gets put on some "Keep up-to-date" list in the company. Maybe the person/people who did the project are no longer with Microsoft.

I think perhaps you should exhaust this solution before jumping to conclusions:
