Special Javascript Canvas Forum

Posted 02 March 2012 - 12:18 AM

The canvas tag needs its own forum.
The usage of javascript with it is so advanced and special that I think it deserves it.
It could have a notice that only questions involving canvas drawing and manipulation is allowed.

This forum would be under web development as "Javascript Canvas".

This would be as cool as penguins in a refrigerator.

While I don't doubt the cool factor of penguins in a fridge... I think a forum for one tag is absurd. You are more than welcome to ask questions or discuss the tag in the html forum or the javascript one, as they are both related to it. It does not need its own forum, and I have seen very few questions about it in relation to say the div tag.. and there is no div forum!

I don't think it's absurd, but I don't think we have nearly the traffic of questions to warrant a forum. Dig up a list of Canvas questions; I doubt you'll find enough to justify it.

There's something to be said for a "if you build it, they will come" argument, but we don't want forums looking like ghost towns.

Yeah true, but I think the current forums are structured pretty well to deal with this. A field such as security, perhaps not.. but we do not have enough questions about that yet.

As it stands now, a lot of people can't distinguish between what does and doesn't belong in the jQuery subforum. I honestly doubt that enough people will choose the correct forum if we added one for the <canvas> tag. :)

Well then.

That's bunk then.

I think the canvas tag would warrent it's own forum if the questions were there.

It has total 2d graphics manipulation by the pixel.
That's some far out stuff compared to "how to make and alert box when..." or "how to use setTimeout to redirect the ..."

Perhaps it could even be a subforum of web development.

Of course if the people were asking the questions.

Maybe the next step would be some canvas drawing challenges. :punk:

You should jump on that then. Put up some good challenges. If they're good, the Forum Leader will feature them on the front page.
