I was using GIMP to make a header for my website and I was adding text to it. I must have clicked a wrong button or something because the place where I could pick different brushes and colors and such as now been replaced with text that reads "you can drop dockable dialogs here." How do I get my old settings back on it?

What you likely did was click the little arrow next to the header and from there selected "Close tab".
To fix it: In the main window, click "Windows => Dockable Dialogs => Tool Options". A "Tool Options" window should pop up. From there, simply drag the header of the window (like: "Paintbrush" or "Bucket Fill") over to the place that reads "You can drop dockable dialogs here."
