Cryo, simple app downloader | Pack reborn-ish

Posted 06 March 2012 - 06:45 PM

Recently, I started getting back into the idea of creating something like a Steam clone, except for applications. Of course, I don't have a server (or someone whos willing to let me use theres) so I settled with a simple downloader. Its very simple to use and has a nice, almost-finished interface.

It features:
  • Google instant-like search.
  • Download queue.
  • Clean, simple interface.
  • Notifications (like when your download completes).
  • Keeps track of your downloaded software.
  • Allows you to run installers with specified command-line arguments.

In the upcoming version, I add the ability to cancel downloads and also improve the start-up time.

Interesting, so it is like an App Store for Windows 7? I have seen similar before... but certainly a project that could be useful.

Yeah, its kind of like an App Store. However, its more of a downloader thing than that. My original aim was a "Steam for Applications" kind of thing but at the moment, I do not have a server and other required things I need.

EDIT: Third Alpha build is available here.

Hey everyone. I am back with a much needed update. Now that I have spring break, I can get back to working on this. Below is a screenshot of today's build.

I have updated the GUI a bit. Also, implemented an unhandled error catcher along with settings.

A download is coming later today.

EDIT: Here it is.

Why don't you use Amazon Web Services or something similar for your server? It's cheap enough. And if people could upload their own applications, it sure would be cool. It looks pretty.
