programming language royalties

Posted 20 March 2012 - 03:40 PM

This is probably a stupid question but I thought about it the other day and the answer may be "no" since I've never heard anyone talk about it before. Basically, when you write a program that you intend to sell, do you have to pay royalties to the company who "owns" the language? Java may be a bad example, so say you write a program in, I don't know, C#. Do you have to pay royalties to Microsoft since they "own"(i think) the language?

Thanks

LOL, thank goodness the answer is no AFAIK. There might be addons, libs or dlls if you use you might have to pay royalties to the author of that code.
