It's not so much that they want your Facebook password, it's why. It says something about the company in general.

I'm pretty much with what Wolfcoder just said. What does it say about a prospective employer that they feel that sifting through your personal life via FB = a legitimate interview practice?

If a prospective employer asked me for my FB password (with a serious face) they wouldn't get to the question mark in their query before my ass was off the chair and heading for the door. The implication is that you're some kind of liar in that you're not disclosing that you have friends, like to have a good time with them and occasionally show up in photographs of same.

I'm on FB but mostly it's for close friends and family. I already assume an prospective employer is going to do at least a little rudimentary research on me so they'll likely discover that I have a FB page. If they can't see things there (because they're not a friend and I use the privacy settings) then anything that gets posted there in the future that could potentially be embarrassing for them will also be equally unviewable. That's the extent to which I'll entertain their concerns about my FB profile. Further than that and they can FOAD whilst I continue my job search.

Fall off a dirigible. It's sort of like "take a long walk off a short pier", only a little different. Craig's going old school.

Sure, I'll give you my Facebook login info. Maybe you'd like to take a quick look at my diary while you're at it? Would you also like a copy of my house key, and my complete financial and medical records? Or maybe I should just bend over and let you have a quick look for yourself?

Fuckers...

And since 2006, the McLean County, Ill., sheriff's office has been one of several Illinois sheriff's departments that ask applicants to sign into social media sites to be screened.

Chief Deputy Rusty Thomas defended the practice, saying applicants have a right to refuse. But no one has ever done so. Thomas said that "speaks well of the people we have apply."

I'm sorry, but I'm that fucker who would rather starve and yell at you for being a complete and utter dick. I don't need your job. What I need to do is shove me fist up your ass and pull the extended dildo out that seems to be lodged up against your fucking brain.

Money is not greater than my right for them to stay the fuck up out of my business. It ain't facebook here, it's these companies desires to dig into these people's private life. If it weren't facebook, they'd be using other means. Facebook is merely the tool, canceling your use of the tool just causes them to find another tool.

LOD's got the right of it. It's a job, not an interview to marry yer daughter. I've never been asked to provide such access but after having considered this for awhile now I do have an appropriate response.

I'd ask how much the prospective job will pay me. Then I confirm the job's weekly hours. Multiply one by the other to get the pay per hour. Then note that since the activities they're most concerned about will happen and be posted in hours that don't coincide with work, if they wish to claim supervision of such activities that the work just extended itself to 24 hours out of 24 (up from, presumably, just 8 of 24) and that a commensurate increase in salary would be required to grant them access to my personal life like that.

They'll say no (because they've already proven themselves to be selfish, intrusive dicks just for asking) but at least you get the opportunity to point out the difference between "work" and "private life" in a way they can't fail to understand.

farewell, lads! I hardly knew ye.

would be my response.

Went to an interview today and have another one tomorrow. Better deactivate mine just as a precaution anyway. I really don't want them to see photos of drunk me and statuses about this chick's ass who works in my current office.
