Spring - Summer 2012 Fitness

Posted 21 March 2012 - 08:33 AM

It's officially spring and time to switch gears from the winter mode to, hopefully, something more outdoors. How is everyone shifting routines to accommodate the warming weather? What's the goals for next two seasons? Be swim suit ready for July? Mini marathons?

I've been passively tracking this 'Tacticle Muster' over at ITS. Wow.. that might be a fun adult Boyscout camp. A little less intense than the GoRUCK challenge.

Also the 'run for your lives' 5k obstacle course run has a schedule up - if you like to mix your fitness with your zombies.

It looks like my summer plans of visiting national science labs is slowly evaporating and now I am thinking about maybe doing more hiking/camping in the state/national parks in my area. Perhaps pickup a kayak but that's to be investigated... hell I am not sure where I will store a 14" boat in my place so we'll see.

Over all I am doing okay for my goals. I'll throw some light yogging/walking in now that the snow's gone. If I keep up what I did this winter I should be in a really good spot for fall!

If you come across any great healthy recipes, links, or what not let me know! Why not start an informal cookbook! Something like "Cooking with D.I.C."?

Wherever I go this summer, I will make it a point to kayak or canoe. Also, I plan to lose at least 20 lbs by the end of the spring. Help keep me motivated bros.

I'm going to be a groomsman in a wedding in October so I'd like to shape up for that a bit. Gonna try to start eating healthy and getting in some cardio everyday.

Bought a treadmill about 8 weeks ago and can't imagine not having it now.

In the past I thought treadmills were a waste of money when running outside is free, but when you are short on time, little things like not having your running clothes ready or no bottles of water, really makes you appreciate it.

As I have not yet reached my goal weight, I am listing myself in the "Forever a Fat Ass" column. Still a work in progress, I suppose.

Odd.. I have never had it. I would guess the Walmarts and Krogers around here sell it, but I'll be damned if I have ever seen it on the shelves. I've never had friends that said "Hey - do you want in on this Nutella?". It might be a non-Nebraskan thing. Like Vegimite/Marmite.

OMG. My friends show up with a container of strawberries, a jar of nutella, and a bottle of wine. It's how we get the party started. Sometimes, I eat it straight from the jar... just Nutella on a spoon.

From a more thorough internet search it seems Nutella's downfall is the copious amounts of sugar in it. This appears to be a slightly better, homemade, alternative?

I have several recipes for homemade Nutella (one even dares to call itself "Better Than Nutella")... and I'm dying to try them... but I have been on a now month-long quest for hazelnuts that has left me empty handed. I've traveled far and wide through three states, to countless stores, and have found everything BUT hazelnuts. I've found every food you can imagine with hazelnut flavoring, but nary a nut to be found. Unless I were to buy a few hundred of those Ferrero Roche things and pluck the nuts from their centers. I could probably order them online, but I haven't looked into that option yet. Now that I think about it, I probably could have saved myself days of driving in desperation and hundreds in gas money if I'd have just ordered the damned things at the start.
