Posted 22 March 2012 - 02:24 PM

Hi everyone! I'm trying to connect to MySql database on 000webhost. But I can't.
there is error: "Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts". I need help with my connection string, I think its something wrong, It's look like this:
    Public ConnString As String = "Server=mysql15.000webhost.com; User = xxxxxxxx_user; Password = mypaag33;Database = a5587725_dbBV"

Looks alright to me.

Could be something to do with the web hosting end. I know with my web host I have to specifically enter an IP address to whitelist before I can connect to my databases.

It is not common to hang your database out on the web with access all willy-nilly like. That leads to bad people cracking it and pilfering your data. You would have to write a specific web service to get data back and forth... I wrote an example of one where my VB.NET app interfaces with a PHP web service in the tutorial sections.

I've just found on 000webhost forum question:

Is it possible to access my database on a 000webhost hosted web server using desktop application?

Answer:

000webhost in their free accounts, does not allow external connections to the mysql servers. It is not possible with free accounts.

You could set up PHP pages to relay database information.

i think this is whats modi123_1 tutorial talking about
