Hi there!
I have resurrected one of my friends pc's from very stubborn trojan that resided there for months. I have installed fresh Windows 7 Pro on his computer, it also runs Norton 360. Now I just can't decide how to make it secure for kids, who might browse Internet a lot. I just wondered if anyone here could suggest me some good tools or techniques on how to filter contents and maybe block some doggy websites. Preferably even blocking some parts of those annoying adds on websites that would suggest some links to other sources that are not trustful. I want to make system safe for kids so they do not see some scary or explicit content by surprise. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

- Smack their hands when they reach for the keyboard.
- Use the user accounts and passwords so they can't log on.
If you are going to allow them on at all, which I wouldn't... Use one of the numerous 'Net Nanny programs that are meant for the purpose you described. Just google "net nanny".
If the kids are so young as to need filtering, then they shouldn't be on it unsupervised anyway. If they are old enough to be trusted to us it on their own, then teach them right from wrong and trust them.

You could set up the pc to use OpenDNS. You can configure filters for what websites are/aren't allowed.

Kids not allowed access to the admin account.
Windows 7 firewall is very powerfull, a little daunting to set up the rules but you can filtet just about anything.

Why would you want to put a kid into a computer? They'll have their whole lives to throw away on the damned things. Send them outside to play.
Also, keep a collection of R-rated material semi-hidden in a folder labelled "porn" for them to find. That won't keep them from finding your actual stash, but it'll give you a plausible sense of denial, which you'll find comforting.
EDIT: and what's wrong with doggy web sites anyway?

If you get a program that allows you to block sites and files, see if you can set it to block everything and add exceptions.

Just wanted to post here that I think I found a solution. When looking around for "net nanny" type program I found there are some commercial ones that require you to purchase license to use and also I just found one that is free "k9". So far it does the job, blocks content and so on. One issue is that as soon as I've installed filter and restarted pc, my antivirus "kaspersky" was quite unhappy about my move and complained that there is some type of trojan trying to access C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, I hope that's normal. Second issue is that I can't browse internet with both antivirus and k9 filter enabled seems to be taking ages to open web page, issue is gone when antivirus is disabled.
