Machine learning based Named Entity Recognition (NER)?

Posted 02 April 2012 - 08:34 AM

Hi,

I need to build a classifier which recognizes Named Entities in a particular domain (eg. Hocky, Football, domains that are narrowed down - not sports). Ultimate goal is to improve text classification through NER.
Is it possible to identify NEs on a particular domain with a classifier? 'coz it shouldn't go accept all the person's names but only a few of them, say only Football players, for instance if the domain i'm interested is Football.

For people who has done something like this, please advise me how should I go on doing this?
Thanks!

This sounds like something that I am doubting you're going to have all that much luck getting help around here, considering how specialized it sounds and all I mean; you might be better off searching for a more specialized forum or help board.
