Are the project files on the SSD? I'd worry about faster death of the drive in that case. You can only write to solid state memory so many times before failure.

That's why they are best as boot devices, not document drives. They should certainly make the PC boot and launch apps fast.

I think my new laptop allows for two drives. So the idea of an SSD boot/apps drive and an HDD documents drive is attractive.

Just remember you don't have to select a laptop just because it comes with an SSD. You can buy oneand switch it out just like any other drive.

Ah.. okay. I wasn't sure if there was some sort of hard facts behind it. I've used a few SSD and was just 'meh' on the whole performance.. though some people (with their build machines) jump back to getting more ram and running ram drives. Of course for a green horn like the OP my only suggestion - 6+ gee-bees of RAM and a big screen... hell get a sufficient sized screen and a big LCD to plug in when home.

Order it to be shipped to my house and I'll ship it to you. I do it all the time for my son in Australia for the same reason: They rape you on computer gear. I think its a tax thing.

the machines have 2 ssd's one for files and 1 for apps

i want the laptop to obviusly have a decent graphics card and nice HD screen aswell as nice surround sound card so am not sure when it comes to 3D games developing what is my best section to go for the higher price over £1300 or stay around £800 will be more than enough for coping?
