Attempting to quit smoking. Was more or less wondering if anyone have used an electronic/vapour cigarette before and your thoughts on it? Are they worth it, do they help? General thoughts? Before I go spend some money haha

I quit smoking by using electronic cigarettes. 2 of my best friends quit smoking by using electronic cigarettes. My brother and two of my sisters-in-law quit smoking by using electronic cigarettes. They work. They are worth the investment.

I have a few friends who have used the electronic cigarettes with varying levels of success. I think that if you're going to quit, you would be able to quit with or without the E-Cigs. The only real reason you should buy the E-Cig is because you want to continue smoking and want to be safer about it. For instance, I wanted to quit, and considered the vapour cigs as well. Before I made my decision, I asked HR, "Since these are harmless, would I be allowed to smoke these inside, or would I have to go outside to inhale water?" Basically it was still considered a cigarette, no I couldn't smoke inside. So since I would be unable to stay at my desk and inhale water, thereby enjoying the experience I wanted without getting up from my workstation, I opted to just stop smoking altogether. Sure, I grab one from my wife from time to time or when we're drinking at a bar, but otherwise, I just stopped buying and smoking cigarettes regularly.

Look for a brand that allows you to step down your nicotine intake.
My first order was 16mg nicotine (the equivalent of full-flavor cigarettes).
My second order, I stepped down the nicotine level to 8mg (the equivalent of light cigarettes).
My third order, I did half of my liquid refill bottles in 8mg and half at 0mg and mixed them so my vaping level was 4mg.
My fourth order, I ordered all 0mg of nicotine... at this point it was no longer a physical addiction to the drug, it was just the oral fixation.
Each order lasted 2-3 weeks. Within 2-3 weeks of the fourth order, I started noticing that days would pass before I'd pick up the e-cig... because the craving wasn't there and I would just forget all about it.
The freaks who insist that "if you want to quit, you'll quit, period" have a point, but mostly they're just blowing smoke out their own asses. It's more of if you DON'T want to quit, you WON'T quit. Wanting to quit and quitting are two very different things. I tried quitting over and over again for years - cold turkey, patches, nicotine gum, prescription meds - and nothing worked. Until I tried the electronic cigarettes. From my personal experience, I've seen far more success among people who have tried to quit by vaping than by other methods.

Kinda harsh to say I'm blowing smoke out my ass and I'm a freak. I wanted to quit, I did. It doesn't work for everyone, but for the most part, it is a will power thing. You're right, if you don't want to quit, you won't, but if you really do want to quit, you can, and fairly easily. Cigarettes are nothing like heroin or methadone or crack where you start to get violently ill from not feeding your craving. You just have to decide to be stronger than the craving and not give in to it. First couple of days are hard, but its worth it.

So, um, what was wrong with going outside? Seems to me the one advantage of smoking would be that you get outside once or twice during the work day.

Nothing, and I still do. The problem was that everytime I went outside, I wanted to smoke, so temporarily I had to stop going outside, because that would trigger a craving. The point was, I enjoyed the flavor and sensation of smoking, but I didn't like the side effects. With the electronic cigarette, I potentially could have gotten the effects I considered benefits without the negative health effects, and there was the potential to break the connection from a habitual routine to just doing something because I like to.

My aunt who had a very difficult time quitting smoking, was able to use electronic cigarettes to break the habit. Most of the stories I have heard of people using them have been successes. If you really want to quit I would make the investment and make the commitment. Good luck!

i think my biggest issue is the stepping outside with the bosses and having a smoke, just been in that routine for quiet awhile so. Just looking to better my health by quitting. Money savings would be good as well haha. As for just quitting. Wish it was that simple haha
