Y'know...if the biggest attraction of going into space is the whole "weightless" thing (and I know it'd be for B9), they have folks who own planes that fly the weightless parabola thing where it allows you to experience microgravity for a couple minutes at a time.



Hell, if they'll float crips, they'll float anyone...and while it ain't cheap (around $5K per person) it's a damn sight less than full blown space travel at a couple hundred big a pop.

Fair enough. But at what count would it cease being badass? I mean, no lie, I've wanted to be an astronaut for as long as I can remember. I recall with great clarity my mom and dad getting me out of bed when I was little to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the Moon. Growing up in the late 60's and through the 70's, space flight was a big deal.

I'd enjoy the rocket ride, the weightlessness and the view. But, the rocket ride can be simulated and I've found that views, while they can be spectacular, don't hold interest long enough to solely justify going into space. I guess, if it wasn't such a unique achievement, would it still be worthwhile? I mean, maybe to folks like us who certainly wouldn't take it for granted...but what about 3-4 generations down the road who (hopefully) will find space trips routine?

There's an assload of risk perching on what is really nothing more than a controlled chemical explosion to be hurled up into an airless void, being bombarded by radiation and gamma rays and that's all to ignore the threat of the clear alien menace that lurks out there.
