What service do companies use for background checks?
I'm not going to be hiring anyone anytime soon, But my brother would like to do back ground checks on anyone that will be spending time with his kids. I figured that he should use the same service that companies use.
He's opting to pay for a background check but there are so many sites offering it's hard to tell whats laget.
I've tried googling for background information but found tons of web sites that I wouldn't trust.
what service should I use for background checks?

Arrest records are public information & you should be able to find them with county records. I was able to find the address of a tenant that I had to take to court because she had a speeding ticket. Also Google should pull up any news articles. You can also find facebook & twitter accounts easy enough.

Well I'm not looking to be Mr-Hacker here. Plus Bloomtucky's web sight doesn't have a section for looking up arrest records
At least, not that I saw.

I know it's not, The county is Seneca county Ohio. I found their site but there's nothing there as far as a search option goes. It's looks like we will have to go to the office in person and ask the little old lady behind the counter for a copy of the records...
Lemur, show me, his name is "PM me for the name".

I did a Google search for "seneca county ohio criminal records"
Unfortunately their website seems broken : http://www.senecaco....rk/default.html

Try giving them a call.
You can also try the following url to get addresses :
http://www.senecacountyauditor.org/

Their search thing kindof works. but when I search for my name nothing comes up. I would expect to at least see something.
We'll have to go there and ask.

Sitter City is a good site to find babysitters where a background check has already been done on them. its also an opportunity for parents of sitters to leave reviews.
(since you said you'd want to do a background check on 'anyone who spends time with the kids.')
You can find court records for free at pacer.gov
