Looking for a CS Online School

Posted 22 April 2012 - 05:55 PM

I live in California and I have bachelor degree in IS and with the current state of California school system I am not allowed to earn and apply for a second degree unless it is a masters program. With that being said my only option to earn a bachelors in Computer Science would be to attend an online university. From what I've found so far only National University offers a CS degree. Does anyone know of any other schools or have any other suggestions?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Really? Where's that law at? I know there was some clarification years ago about graduating at the same time with multiple degrees but as far as I know there is no limit on getting two or twelve undergrad degrees.

California schools are in a budget crisis. I've been trying for 2 years to go back to school. As far as I know you can't get a second degree if you already have one.

That sounds ridiculous, especially in California, with 5 of the top 25 schools in the nation. Do you know how many Stanford/Berkley grads probably have multiple degrees? Anyway, being that the economy is bad right now, it seems like a plausible idea that you can't get financial aid for a second degree right now...

In the slight chance I am wrong, have you looked into U of Phoenix? I'm pretty sure they have a software development degree which is pretty much Computer Science. It's quite expensive unfortunately.

hmm I can understand the financial aid bit.. but wow.. do you have an example of where that's spelled out in a university? That might impact a future plan or two of mine.

I should have been a little more clear. From what I know this affects all or almost all of the 23 California State schools.

It's possible you are hitting a wall with having two degrees of the same type.. Info Science and Comp Science might be equivalent in some views... speaking of - why would you get a comp sci after having an info sci degree?

Second Bachelor’s Degree Application Instructions

To apply for admission as a second bachelor’s degree-seeking student, complete the following items. Please submit your application and supporting documents by the deadline for the quarter to which you are applying.

Submit an application for admission online at CSU Mentor and pay the $55 nonrefundable application fee. Be sure to print the application submission confirmation page for your records. Paper applications are also accepted and may be downloaded from CSU Mentor.
Request official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to be sent to Cal State East Bay. Official transcripts must be received by the document deadline. Transcripts will be accepted if mailed directly by the college or university or if hand-carried in their original sealed envelope to Cal State East Bay's Enrollment Information Center on the First Floor of the Student Services and Administration (SA) Building on the Hayward Campus, or to the Academic Services Center on the Concord Campus.

Your entire application including course transcripts will be reviewed by an admission evaluator. The evaluator will evaluate your class standing and determine whether you are admissible to the University. You will be notified by mail upon receipt of your application.

Please note that you cannot earn two degrees in the same field. For example, a student is not permitted to have a B.A. degree in Geology and then apply for a B.S. in Geology. Consult the University Catalog for details.

This was at the very top of one of your links

"At this time, Cal State East Bay does not accept applications from students wishing to pursue a second bachelor’s degree."
