I noticed on youtube, that some of the tutorials have a direct visual studio recording where you only see the visual studio and nothing else. I was wondering how this is done or is it just someone with a webcam placed really close to their monitor.
Thanks

It's most likely Fraps, or other recording software, or they could have a capture card in their computer. Anyone who would record something using a webcam pointed at their monitor, shouldn't be allowed to upload videos in my opinion.

hypercam is not too bad either.... at least that's what I use when I did my videos of mine stashed in the 'share your projects'.
I'll have to check out fraps when I get home.

Fraps seems to be the most popular software for recording video from your computer. I've barely used it at all, so I can't offer any real opinions on it but it does seem easy to use. Once it's running on your computer, you just press F9 to start recording and F9 to stop recording. The files can get incredibly large really quickly from what I hear, though, so be mindful of your storage space.

A lot of people on Youtube use Camtasia Studio which allows you to record just a region of the screen and then do lots of fancy jazz afterwards with it. It's a really great program, but only if you want to splash out £250/$400 for it.

I guess in the UK you're getting stiffed by 25% in the currency conversion. In the US its $299
