Backend Partner

Posted 27 April 2012 - 07:03 AM

I'm looking for someone who has at least intermediate skill level in back end web technologies such as PHP, MySQL, and Amazon Web Services. The project is a for-profit closed source website, and I'll give more details to whoever PM's me. I wish I could have someone as a local partner (West Michigan, US), but I'm willing to collaborate over a distance.
I'm a front end programmer and designer (javascript, css, etc), and I'm looking for a partner to help me continue in building Song Grove.

This is a start-up, I'm a front-end designer and I'm looking for a partner. So you would get equity % in the company, and we would work together.

I'll email you in a bit. To everyone else, to be clear we want partners that know Ruby, Node.js, Clojure, Java, Python, Scala, PHP, and/or Javascript - along with HTML and CSS.

My email is neverfable@gmail.com for anyone interested or wanting more details.

Not asking for much, are you? Just half a dozen or so unrelated languages. Plus HTML and CSS to boot. To work for free, until the company makes any money.

No, I'm not asking that a single person is familiar with all of these languages but I'm informing people that any of these languages are valuable to know for this project. Have you ever been a part of a start-up? There isn't money until we earn money, I'm not a client and I'm not looking for someone to program a website for me. And to say that those languages are unrelated is simply an uneducated statement.

Why the hell do you require HTML/CSS + Javascript if you are the front-end guru.

If you can't do basic HTML and CSS, then you probably cannot do back-end, and I never required Javascript.

I suppose coming to an unprofessional forum like this one isn't the best way to find able partners.

Is this an extension off the mosaik project?

There was an expectation of work place professionalism on the internet?

To be fair - the project types of "I have the next big thing - but I need you to do a ton of work for free and if it pans out you might get X dollars on a verbal contract of sorts that I might forget later" come along frequently and often. You can not fault people for being inquisitive on how they are spending their time and the benefit/reward structure for leading their skills.

I don't think you quite understand, I'm not looking for an employee. I'm looking for someone to join me that's passionate about creating fantastic websites, and that has back-end knowledge. The amount of work that any partners do is equal or less than the amount that I have already done with the website, and it's on track to launch beta July 1st. However, I would like to shift my focus to solely front-end, and that's why I'm looking throughout the internet because there aren't any people in my area with the knowledge. And I'm certainly not faulting people for being inquisitive, that's exactly what I want! But false comments about a list of languages being unrelated isn't what inquisitive means to me.

Well then you haven't spent much time reading posts just like yours. They always boil down to:
The prospective "partner" must be highly skilled and willing to work for nothing but the promise that they might make some money at some point in the future.

These are mutually exclusive requests. Anyone with the skills to do what you want is sitting at their keyboard either laughing or feeling a little insulted. I'm alternating between the two.

Understand that no one with the skills you need cares about what they might possibly be paid in the future. We've all got paying gigs that you need to compete with, and $0/hour plus vapor pay doesn't cut it.

This is probably why you are a freelance designer and not part of a start-up.

You mean, July first of this year? And you're looking for someone to make it actually work... in May?

You're a funny funny person. Tell us another.
