Best portfolio project?

Posted 29 April 2012 - 04:49 PM

I'm looking for ideas for impressive projects to have on my portfolio. I currently know Java and have an EXTREMELY basic knowledge of assembly. At first I attempted to write an OS but it never got far and with no user base I figured it would be a pointless venture. Any good ideas?

You should be worried less about your portfolio if you have nothing to put in it.

Just gain experience with your languages. Do various projects that come to mind or start freelancing (the idea that you need a portfolio to do work is flawed). A portfolio is supposed to reflect your experience and abilities, not your ideas (or ours) of what's "impressive".

Make something you're interested in. They will ask you about it in an interview. It's best if you are enthusiastic and can go on and on about the decisions you made and how much you enjoy coding etc.
