I remember when the Geek Squad was a little office with a few *real* geeks based out of the Warehouse Dist. in Minneapolis.
Now suburbanite moms can bring their PC's into any Best Buy in the country and have 'em search for hubby's donkey sex collection. What have they lowered themselves to?!?

Horay for Epson.
I bought an Epson Photo Stylus R260
I used it till ink ran out, I bought a set of ink cartridges on EBAY (1/6th the price)
Put them in, it wouldn't work, I went and bought new Epson Cartridges
They wouldn't work either.
I called the tech support line expecting to be run through the ringer with, Try This, and Try That.
But instead, to my surprise and delight, after answering only four questions the tech said he'ld send out a new printer, and I could just dispose of the non-functioning one.
I was totally blown away! This was the most accomodating tech support I have ever dealt with.
I think from now on, all I will invest in will be Epson, I bought it to print on disks, and use an HP for scan - print - etc.
EPSON EPSON hip hip hooray!

or any big box retailer.
i used to work at officemax, and it's even worse,
because computers are a new item, and are not the purpose of the store,
training consists of reading a 2 page comparison chart.
so the only information you are going to get from anyone is "this can do x, and this can do x,y" but they have no idea what either is.
one day i'm gonna change the world with informative associates and a caring workplace.
its true.

Why would anybody here go to or receive a "technician" for their computer anyways. Computer repair people, specially in big surface (EDIT:Sorry thats a frenchism. I meant retail) environments, are just stupid, for the price and in general for their competency. Soccer moms, go ahead and get leached of you money (they reinstall windows for 40$, you kid neighbor will do it for 5), but I'll be damned if I ever consult one of THEM.

that's the same way it was when i worked at target. distributors just leave binders with charts you're supposed to look thru to find the match for the customer. it's pretty fucking dumb.
