To me that smacks of bad planning.

Damn straight. If you set a goal, that should be what you need to get to a successful outcome. If you can get to a successful outcome without meeting that goal, you should have set a lower goal.

It also sounds like an opportunity to make some cash in exchange for shitty rewards.

It's a two-edged sword. Yes, you can fund something that is ultimately a waste of money, because they don't get enough to start *anything* and have to spend everything on the rewards- and fuck that.

But the advantage of this is that you can still get enough to start your project, even if it isn't enough to cover everything you need to finish it- and once you've started, you can show people how far you've come, what you've done, what you need to finish, and do another round of funding based on that.

Bwahahah.. Has anyone seen Neal Stephenson's sword training/arena game Clang? Well worth its weight in hilarious videos.

"Sir Dumbass"...
"The Guitar Hero of swords"

Well.. this is a new take. Penny Arcade is using kickstarter to go ad free. If anything their video is amazing!

I suspect it will get pulled. The PA kickstarter violates several of the kickstarter guidelines.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Pebble yet! That thing was a raging success and pretty good proof that good ideas are rewarded. I mean come on, they raised more than $10,000,000 on a $100,000 goal. Yes, there is a TON of garbage on there that will (hopefully) never see the light of day, but there are a handful of really good projects.

This is why I didn't look it up. I knew it would suck.

Okay to be fair.. it's an e-paper watch that hooks up to some app on your android or iOS phones... and can send you little text message things to your watch.. you know.. because that phone should just be in your pocket.
