Apparently many people agreed with you.. It's a project I wouldn't care to stash in my watch pocket.

If that were true, I'd have a hell of a character by now.

Cantankerousness is generally considered a character attribute, isn't it?

Interesting - it looks like kickstarter is trying to clean up their image as well as users bitching about products disappearing.
For everyone:
For the "New Hardware and Product Design"

This should be interesting on what makes it through now and what will move on.
I'm not going to lie - there's been days of me just surfing kickstarter to see what it would cost to donate to get a final product or what low level trinket I find interesting - less so the enthusiasm for the project. Heh..

What are the risks and challenges this project faces, and what qualifies you to overcome them?
For the "New Hardware and Product Design"
Quote
- Product simulations are prohibited. Projects cannot simulate events to demonstrate what a product might do in the future. Products can only be shown performing actions that they’re able to perform in their current state of development.
- Product renderings are prohibited. Product images must be photos of the prototype as it currently exists.
- Offering multiple quantities of a reward is prohibited. Hardware and Product Design projects can only offer rewards in single quantities or a sensible set (some items only make sense as a pair or as a kit of several items, for instance).

I'm actually pretty surprised by this move. It's rare that a company does something long-term smart in preference to short-term stupidity. There's plenty of on-line retail out there, for kickstarter to be a marketing venue pretty much shot its uniqueness to hell.
Has anyone been following the flapdoodle about Amanda Palmer's attempt to recruit "volunteer" musicians for her tour? Make the most public million dollars in recent pop music history, and suddenly it's a lot harder to claim poverty. Funny, that.

Oh really? A leather or metal bound 20th Anniversary edition of 'Rage: The Apocalypse', but I have to chuck in $120 to get it? Oh your dirty cheeky monkey you.

Its a cool idea. How well it works i dont know but it would be interesting to give it a try and see if you could get some funding. I have a few ideas and some would only be like a thousand or two. I imagine something small could get funded if it was presented well enough
