I have a Formview control on a aspx page that has a number of controls.
When I am in insert mode (<InsertItemTemplate>), the various controls are under each other by default.
What I am wanting to do is to have certain controls on the right side opposite semi-equivalent controls on the LHS (basically "normal address" fields on the LHS and "mail address" fields on the RHS opposite the equivalent "normal" fields) eg Address 1 on LHS Mail Address 1 opposite.
To clarify, I have the following fields on the <InsertItemTemplate>:
<InsertItemTemplate>
Family Name:
<asp:TextBox ID="FamilyNameTextBox" runat="server" CssClass=".right"
Text='<%# Bind("FamilyName") %>' />
<br />
Address 1:
<asp:TextBox ID="Address1TextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("Address1") %>' />
<br />
Address 2:
<asp:TextBox ID="Address2TextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("Address2") %>' />
<br />
Suburb:
<asp:TextBox ID="SuburbTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Suburb") %>' />
<br />
Post Code:
<asp:TextBox ID="PostCodeTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("PostCode") %>' />
<br />
State:
<asp:TextBox ID="StateTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("State") %>' />
<br />
Country:
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownCountry" runat="server"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataTextField="Country" DataValueField="Country"
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("Country") %>'>
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:SamaritansPurseTasConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [vwCountryListByCountry]"></asp:SqlDataSource>
<br />
Mail Address 1:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailAddress1TextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailAddress1") %>' />
<br />
Mail Address 2:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailAddress2TextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailAddress2") %>' />
<br />
Mail Suburb:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailSuburbTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailSuburb") %>' />
<br />
Mail Post Code:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailPostCodeTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailPostCode") %>' />
<br />
Mail State:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailStateTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailState") %>' />
<br />
Mail Country:
<asp:TextBox ID="MailCountryTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("MailCountry") %>' />
<br />
Home Phone:
<asp:TextBox ID="HomePhoneTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("HomePhone") %>' />
<br />
Email:
<asp:TextBox ID="EmailTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Email") %>' />
<br />
Note:
<asp:TextBox ID="NoteTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Note") %>' />
<br />
<asp:LinkButton ID="InsertButton" runat="server" CausesValidation="True"
CommandName="Insert" Text="Insert" />
<asp:LinkButton ID="InsertCancelButton" runat="server"
CausesValidation="False" CommandName="Cancel" Text="Cancel" />
</InsertItemTemplate>
I have the following code at the top of the page:
[indent]<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="FamilyAddNew.aspx.vb" Inherits="SamaritansPurseTasAdmin.FamilyAddNew" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
<title>Families</title>
<link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="Styles/FamilyStyleSheetInsUpd.css" />
</head>[/indent]
by default, when I initially created the page it referenced a css file named "Site.css". what I did was to create a new css file named "FamilyStyleSheetInsUpd.css"
Then I simply copied the code from Styles.css to "FamilyStyleSheetInsUpd.css" and edited it by adding a new style called ".right" with the following code:
.right
{
position: relative;
right: 100%;
}
Then, as an experiment I applied that style to the FamilyNameTextBox by adding an entry CssClass=".right"
Unfortunately, it didn't work, the text box is still in its original position.
the updated css file is as follows (note the new entry is at the end):

I have tried changing the position and right entries, but those changes don't seem to have any effect, I have also dome some digging on the w3schools web site to no avail.
If somebody could throw some light on the subject I would really appreciate it.
Kind regards and blessings
Ross
