Best ecomerce platform

Posted 02 May 2012 - 03:14 PM

Hi guys,

I was approached with a situation where I will be building an ecomerce store. We will not be selling real products though. It will be selling 2 things. Subscriptions so you can log in and download "subscriber only" content, which happen to be plans for wood working. Or guests may purchase single plans for say .99 cents. I have never sold anything online that's digital.

Does any one have any suggestions for good platforms the work well with paid subscriptions and selling digital files? I am farmiliar with magneto.

Also I am only familiar with HTML CSS js php and MySQL.

Thanks in advanced! :)

For e-commerce PHP and ASP are the good choice for the web developer but according to me PHP will be the best because ASP is very costly for web hosting.

Hi,

If you are familiar with Magneto, then it’s a good platform for deploying a website which will have e-commerce. But as your need is that once a user has purchased the subscription then he/she will be able to login and get the access to documents then I that case I would suggest develop a custom application then going for some open source. As in every open source you will have to do major customizations to give logged in members with subscription the access to digital goods.

And as you know PHP & MySQL, you may use these to deploy this website.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

~M

It's Magento, not Magneto.

HAHA Nice catch on the Magneto. I think he is onto something here though. Surely Magneto can help me!!

Also, tsk on sliping in with the "But what better should I expect from an Indian sweatshop code monkey?" In white font. :P hahahahaha

Cheers
