I think the Avengers used 3d in the way it should be used, to enhance the depth of the film to draw you in more. It's a thousand times better than having making something pop out of the screen every 6 seconds. They still had a few shots that made me hate it because they have things move quickly past the front of the camera, which just ends up looking blurry and horrible.

Like most of the people here I'll watch:

Total Recall
Prometheus
That Johnny Depp Movie
Cabin In The Woods

Haven't watched The Avengers yet.

Question: How does one who needs glasses to watch properly watch a 3D movie?

Yeah it sounds dumb, forgive me.

Yeah, that's what the people I asked told me. Would it in any way affect the 3D or something?
I miss my 20/20 vision. Sheesh.

Gives me a mild headache sometimes which makes things seem a bit blurry.

Yeah the avengers being in 3d, idk if it wasn't quite worth it but i pretty much forgot i was watching it in 3d for most of the movie. So i guess you could take that as good and bad. I haven't seen a 3d movie in prob 2 years so maybe it just evolved so much where i don't even notice as much cause its so smooth. I remember last time i saw one my eyes ended up feeling a little fatigued after trying to focus on it but it felt really natural this time around.

Prometheus looks wicked. I read the "leaked" script online. If its even 1/3 true.... I think this is going to be an awesome story.....

I went with a few friends that wear glasses the other day, they just wore them over their normal glasses. They said it was a bit awkward, but they didn't complain about it being blurry or anything. You could always cut the lenses out of the 3d glasses and use tape to keep them on your normal glasses if it's too uncomfortable though I imagine.

i dislike 3d movies. i rarely watch movies in theaters and when i do i tend to watch them in a nearby imax theater. they always show shit in 3d so i feel like i don't have much of a choice.

99 times out of 100, given the option, i'll choose the 2d variant.

Uh yeah, I'd choose the digital version of a movie anytime. What sucks is, they don't have a digital version of "Cabin In The Woods" here.

Thanks everyone! Guess I'll try it myself.

I think the reason 3d doesn't work is due to the screen itself. It projects only out to a certain width, not completely surrounding your head. So the result, in-screen-glasses-on, things pop out but out of it they don't.

The reason 3D doesn't work is that it's mostly a gimmick and people have mostly figured that out.

Interestingly, my local theater has four showings of Avengers in 3D, and about a dozen normal. I believe this is partially due to 3D resources in the theater itself, but I'd like to think it also reflects demand. Conversely, I've gone to a non 3D showing of a movie mostly available in 3D, and that showing is often unusually packed.

When Avatar came out, I saw it in plain old 2D. My opinion of 3D already being low. Everyone said that Avatar got 3D right, best example, blah, blah. I ultimately ended up seeing it again 3D. It was a good experience. It conclusively proved I never need to worry about going to a 3D movie again.

i saw the avengers in 2d, i really can't think of anything the movie could have done in 3d to make it better. the only thing it needed was a giant screen. that's all you really need for 'immersion'. i'd take 2d imax over 3d any day.

that said, there are a few exceptions, before 3d was everywhere, i always loved cheesey horror movies in 3d (they're already bad, pile the cheese on at that point) like my bloody valentine 3d (that last one i remember)

and i'll see a movie FILMED in 3d. like avatar. (which was a shitty movie, but the 3d was definitely a step above everything else)
