Will this despicable behavior by Oracle cause you to drop Java development? I'm just curious as I am not a Java dev. How do you feel about this whole API patent fiasco?

Why would anyone 'drop' Java because of this?

Yeah, not seeing how this would cause me to drop Java.

1) Oracle did not invent the Java language/syntax... so really it doesn't change my opinion of that part of it.

2) There exists 3rd party and open-source implementations of the java runtime, so really I could technically avoid use of Oracle technologies all together rather easily... and actually I do.

Um, no. Nor would google's despicable behavior cause me to drop android development, if I were actively working on that right now, or even to migrate off gmail (yet).

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure, because of course Microsoft is involved in plenty of patent bullshittery, and I thought maybe there was a Microsoft connection that I wasn't aware of.

Yes, it would. The only reason that I use Java is for mobile and embedded devices. If Oracle makes it difficult to use Java on these embedded platforms, then I'll simply move to another language. there are tons of gorgeous libraries for embedded, real time systems in both C++ and Python, which are my two other main languages.
