I don't understand why the guy would change your code to look MORE antiquated and to be non-browser agnostic.

Is he a dev or is this a guy just messing with you?

Sounds to me like he's an older dev with a ego problem (quite common in the industry)... he knows one way to do things and doesn't want bothered learning a different way. So he insists that everyone do things HIS way. I've worked with a few of these in my time. I often worry that I'll become one later in life...

I don't get it; why not just install a local VCS (either local by nature; git/mercurial or a server ie. VisualSVN). Yeah; It's not backup, but when you make changes you have them.

@rud - my guess is management at his place has some draconian policies created as misinterpretation of "federal guidelines"... to the tune that what can and cannot be installed - as well as where the code can be stored - is strictly controlled.

Don't worry, since you became one ages ago.

Touche.

Anyways, agreed with versioning, that's saved me quite a few nightmares. I'm fortunate that those above me at my place of work leave it generally to my judgment. Of course they have input on the designs and other postings, but they have good faith in my decisions.

Now that doesn't mean that I get it all right, hardly. How I wish that were the case. Where they trust me with Web and Unix, I trust them with service and Windows administration. It's a trade off of skills, to which I'm grateful that I ended up in such a position as this.

As far as dealing with Seniors with an ego problem, it's best to be seen and not heard if you can at all help it. Now what I will tell you is that if they call out the design as bad you can quite abruptly throw him under the bus. Patience is the name of the game, and if he can't match par with your skills it will eventually become apparent.

You could use the Unseen Academy's route to promotion and kill him in his sleep...

Moonlight with your skills.

Do some freelancing. If you start making more money than your day job move to freelancing full time, or start your own development team.

Well my code that was on DEV was over written by his code. so code is bye bye

Revising previous comment:

A sane design process plus version control would help. What the hell were you thinking?

I loled.

If his company is anything like the company I work for (and I suspect it is, and he may share a similar role in it as I do in mine), then the thoughts of the OP might have been:

"Yeah, gunna show this head guy who makes more money than me that I'm worth EVEN MORE MONEY!!!"
"Check out this wicked stuff I can do. Head guy doesn't even know how to spell div."
(Note the lack of adequate paranoia, shadyness, and irrational/conflicted desire to post codez all over the web)

And the head guy's thoughts:
"OMG so many problems! Why does new kid keep bugging me about things, and WTF happened to this page?"

Here's a nifty tip OP:

Keep copies of your stuff in half a dozen or more TOTALLY SEPARATE locations, and learn how to sync updates among all of them, and then do that forever.

Update-- after he couldnt get his to work right he asked me to redo it my way-- which I did.

Mine is now the main page lol.

After that he asked why people use div instead of tables... in other words he doesn't know how to use div...

lol

made me feel good
